Pumpin' Pal Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. With which pump brands are Pumpin’ Pal Super Shields compatible?
- A. Pumpin’ Pal Super Shields are compatible with all major pump brands including Ameda™, Avent™, Bailey™, Hygeia™, Lansinoh™, Medela™, and Playtex™.
- Q. Can Pumpin’ Pal Super Shields be sterilized?
- A. Pumpin’ Pal Super Shields are made of medical-grade polypropylene. They can be sterilized using any traditional sterilization method, including: boiling for five minutes (place the Super Shields in rapidly boiling water and remove after 5 minutes – allow to air-dry); dishwasher that has a sterilizing cycle (place them in the top rack); Medela Quick CleanTM Micro-SteamTM Bags. Super Shields can also be sterilized in an autoclave.
- Q. Is it necessary to sterilize Super Shields before using them?
- A. We recommend washing Super Shields in hot soapy water prior to using them the first time. However, if your baby was born prematurely, is in the NICU, or has a compromised immune system, sterilize Super Shields prior to using them for the first time.
- Q. How I know if I have the correct fit for my Super Shields?
- A.The one thing we know is that sizing for any type of breast shield is not an exact science!! Every woman is different – breast size, nipple diameter and breast tissue elasticity all affect not only the comfort of a flange, but the effectiveness as well. The reason we began offering our Pumpin’ Comfort Kit is because we know how important it is that a mom has the correct size from the very beginning. We also know that many women use different sizes at different times and/or on different breasts. You will recognize the best fit by the highest output when pumping and the most comfortable pump session.
- Q. Do Super Shields work for every mom?
- A. The majority of moms find our Super Shields to be more comfortable and effective. If you find that you pump less using Super Shields than when using a traditional style of flange, try using a different size Super Shield (if a lot of breast tissue is being drawn down into the tunnel, try using a smaller size).
